Wifey and I went to Waikiki beach tonight to watch the World Premiere of “Lost: Season 3.” A friend from work told me about it. He seemed to think that some of the stars of the show might even come…of course, I’m thinking, “yeah, right” but I brought the camera just in case. The event was cool on a couple of levels:
A) This was THE world premiere…it doesn’t show on ABC until Wednesday.
2) We got to see it on Waikiki beach on a 30-foot screen.

We took the back way downtown and parked by Kapiolani Park - quite a ways from the beach. I did my best Austin Powers imitation while parallel parking the 18-foot minivan in an 18 1/2-foot parking space. It kept the crowd in the park entertained for quite a while. We begin the long walk to the beach…

Just as we’re walking up, we hear screaming and see a limo drive away. Hey! Maybe a few of the stars ARE coming. The have the bicycle rack style barricades up blocking off a large area. There’s a red carpet and a couple of security guards standing there. The crowd is only about 2 people deep around the barricades and there’s a guy signing autographs. So, we run over and find Mr. Eko. I snap a few pics and then the celebs just start coming…Desmond, Locke, Sayid, Hurley, etc. Of course I only know them by their “show” name. The psycho fans in front of us are screaming “We love you,” and “come over here” and the like. Despite their psycho-ness, some of the stars eventually come over and I got a few shots (see below). We finally scout out a decent seat and camp out.

I ran off to grab some food and while gone, someone passed out survey forms to wifey. They said that there was free ice cream in it if we filled out the survey on “how we liked the show.” After the premiere was over, we started out on the long hike back. We decide we’re not going for the free ice cream but going to stop at the Cheesecake Factory instead. However, on the way out we see people w/the “ice cream.” It turns out that they’re giving away freeze-dried ice cream in an official looking “Dharma” pouch. We grab some pine, fill out the surveys and are walking away w/some Lost dessert. By the way, we still stopped at Cheesecake Factory.

All-in-all, it was a fun experience. The best part of the premiere episode was when Jack went into the … just kidding. You have to wait until Wednesday to find out what happens.

Here are some pictures. They are ~500 KB each. Beware if you don’t have high-speed internet.

Here’s a quick video of the insaneness of the moment (1.9 MBytes):

To all the moms who have ever said, “Eat your spinach - it’s good for you” - in an ironic E. coli twist, maybe spinach isn’t so good for you, esp. if you live on the west coast of the mainland. For all you scorekeepers, that’s 3 food stories in a row and 4 entries in two days. I’m on a roll (no pun intended).

Here’s another food story…I like food.  We went out for Mongolian BBQ the other night.  I spiced mine up w/crushed red pepper.  It was good - made my nose run.  Then I started thinking.  Why does spicy food make your nose run?  I don’t get it.  BTW - we had fortune cookies for dessert (no Cinnamon Twists).

Me and another guy from work went to lunch today at a nearby food court. After some tasty Chinese food, we decided we needed a carmel apple Empanada from Taco Bell. Have you had one of these? They are awesome…carmel and apple bundled nicely in fried pie dough. Anyway, so the lady in front of me orders the #6 (or something…the number is not important). The highly trained worker bee behind the register says, “Would you like to add some Cinnamon Twists for dessert?” So, when it’s my turn, I order 2 carmel apple empanadas…to go. Which she responds with, “Would you like to add some Cinnamon Stix for dessert?” Hello…is this microphone on? Did you hear what I just ordered? In some cultures, the empanada would be considered dessert. Here in Hawaii, I guess not so much. By the way, I said, “No thank you.”

Yeah, it’s been a while since I wrote anything here. I wonder if this whole BLOG thing was just a passing fad. I often wonder if anyone reads this junk anyway. At least I’m keeping the BLOG spammers in business…every once in a while I get about 94 comments to an old post. I’ll try to be a little more diligent in the future.
