May 2005

Here we are camping this weekend in the Hocking Hills. By the way, I highly recommend spot #150 or 151. They are at the end of a culdesac away from everyone. Anyway, we came out last fall with our friends and wanted to get out here again before we move away. We picked this weekend at least a month ago, but we knew there would be a chance of rain since it rained almost every day when we moved here at this same time last year. Red Flag #1.

Last time we came out here, we rented a pop-up trailer from the base, but they have since gotten rid of all of them. Their replacement campers are hard-shell, $75 per night tin cans. We thought that we would do better to get a tent and do that. So, this is our first family tent-camping experience. Red Flag #2. That being said, we got out here about 1800 (6 pm for you civilian types) on Friday. Right after we got the tent set up, it started to thunder. Fortunately, it didn’t rain at the campground and we had a fun night hanging out around the campfire.

Time Line for Night#1:
2330: Lights out
2345: Wind Starts
0130: Rain Starts
0300: Offspring #3 is awake and crawling around the floor – put her in “bed” with us
0600: Offspring #3 is awake and ready to start the day
0615: Everyone is awake
0650: Rain stops
0700: Everyone is dressed and outside for the trek to the bathroom
0730: Chris starts a fire
0740: Rain starts again - puts out fire
0800: Everyone is loaded in the cars and we’re heading 12 miles north to Burger King

We’re still having a good time, but I have to laugh because we’re all in the tent on Saturday afternoon. Everyone is taking a nap and I’m writing this BLOG on my laptop computer when I should be working on my Graduate Research Project paper. I just couldn’t think clearly enough to do that since I’m in the middle of the woods, in the rain, in a tent, and typing on a laptop. Kind of funny when you think about it. Now if I could just pickup WiFi, I could post this now instead of when we get home. Back to the paper…

Okay -

Not that I was ever considered a real blogger, but it’s been a long time since I posted anything - even for a “wanna-be.” So here’s an obligatory post. I’ve been a little busy these days writing my “thesis” for my Master’s Degree. It’s not a full-blown thesis in name, just quantity. If I ever get it done, I might have some time to write a little more…right now, not so much.
