It’s days like yesterday that make it cool to be a husband and a dad. Shortly after I got home from work, the family announced that I was “King for a Day.” I wasn’t exactly sure what that entailed, but I was definitely optimistic. I soon learned that everyone had something special planned for me.
First of all, I didn’t have to help with dinner (although not that different from many nights). I usually do the dishes after dinner is over, but my wife said,”Nothing doing!” She told me to go sit on the couch…the king doesn’t do dishes. After dinner, we piled in the van and headed south. I wasn’t sure where we were going - I was along for the ride. We stopped at the mall and I asked to make sure that this was a stop for me (normally the mall is not high on my list of things I would do if I were king for a day). I also mention that there is no guitar shop in the mall, but after being reassured that this was indeed a stop for me, we walk in and come to our first stop - a 10 minute aqua massage courtesy of offspring #3, my daughter. It was definitely interesting…the aqua jets used a pulsing motion as they traveled from feet to neck and then a steady stream of pressurized water back down again.
After a relaxing massage, I stop at the sunglasses kiosk next to the massage place. This is an unplanned stop, but I’m in dire need of some shades. So I pick out a new pair courtesy of offspring #2, my youngest son. For his contribution, he actually wanted to buy me “a pair of striped pants,” but we settled for the shades instead. After a quick high-five, we head out of the mall for stop #3.
I’m pretty sure where we’re going since I kept hearing mentions of ice cream for most of the evening. Next stop…Stone Cold Creamery, courtesy of #1 son. The boys each get their own thing and wifey, daughter and I share a mix of vanilla ice cream, brownie, heath bar, and caramel. We made quick work of that and then headed home courtesy of my chaeuffer, which was of course wifey’s gift to me (along with the dishes). She doesn’t normally drive when we’re together, so it was nice to have the evening off.
All-in-all, It’s cool to be the center of attention and guest of honor for no apparent reason. A heartfelt thanks to the family!

I started my last quarter of school this week. Today was my last third day of school, which was just a little better than yesterday (my last second day of school), which was better than Monday (the last first day of school). I think I’m ready to be done with school.
That not withstanding, I heard the quote of the day (week, month, year…) today in class. We were having a discussion about a topic that got a few people spun up. Then, a student makes a comment, the instructor comes back with something, and then this quote erupts from the aforementioned student:
“I’m not telling you I disagree with what I’m saying…”
What was that? So, does this person agree with his/her (identity withheld) own statement or not? That ranks right up there with, “Don’t misunderestimate what I’m saying…”
Unremarkable

I was told that “once a week does not make you a blogger.” That may be true, but I’ve spent so much time working on getting this BLOG up and running that I didn’t have time to write. Now that it’s all said and done, I am admittedly having a little bit of a Blogger’s Block. It was suggested that I just read a bunch of other BLOGS and steal their ideas. In an effort to get going, here’s what I got:
Last night was wings night at BW 3s. Wings night is a fun time of kicking back with a bunch of friends and eating “cheap” chicken wings with the smell of burnt grease and second hand smoke in the air. Nothing too exciting. Larry hazing was kept to a minimum.
In short:
The waitress was good.
The conversation was better.
Wings were great as usual.
We laughed.
Forgot my digicam.
Will meet up again in two weeks.
I was chastised by Bryan about not blogging enough.

It may seem odd that I have had the desire to own/fly a remote control (RC) airplane…I’ve logged plenty of time in the real thing. This desire goes back to high school/college. There was an RC field near my house. I went there on numerous occasions, but never had the time or money to get into it.
Fast forward 15-20 years (makes me feel old). After a few months of not flying, I decided it was time to get into the RC business. I bought a new radio and airplane, but it sat in the garage for about 4 months while the ache of winter lingered on. Finally, after completing the winter semester of school, I had almost two weeks off and spring weather was starting to show itself. So, I spent about 3-4 days building this airplane that had been sitting in my garage. Although it came “almost ready to fly,” there was still a lot of gluing and installing of radios, engine, etc.
I completed the model in time to give it a trial run on a relatively warm day (for Ohio), but the guy who was going to teach me to fly didn’t have a cable to hook my transmitter to his. That would have allowed him to take control of the plane if when I got in over my head. However, I spent a lot of time getting this plane ready and wanted to see it fly. So, after about 5 minutes of engine tuning, I let him fly it. It was very stable and landed uneventfully. Unfortunately, I’ll have to wait for another day to fly it myself…but, I went to the hobby store and got the cable we need. It’s just a matter of when the weather will cooperate again.
